Wow. I mean, just, Wow.

I’m finally caught up with answering e-mails at the moment, and I am just overwhelmed (in a good way) with the response to my request for scraps of sock yarn. As of 11:42 CDT Tuesday night, I’ve responded to well over 100 e-mails from people either wanting to help out or wanting to make the blanket. I think both groups are awesome! It is a great feeling to be the recipient of such generousity, especially since it’s under such pleasant circumstances; and I love it that others want to make this blanket too. I think I responded to everyone, so if e-mailed me or put a comment on my blog before 11:40 on Tuesday, you might want to re-send it. Our server has been sorely taxed today, but my husband says it should be just fine as long as our ISP doesn’t get upset about the traffic.

Oh, and some people left comments asking for my address, but didn’t give me their e-mail address. So I couldn’t respond to them. Funny – I’m willing to e-mail my address to any stranger to asks for it, but don’t feel comfortable just posting it for the world to see even though my full name is on the blog and you could look me up in a search engine if you really wanted to. I never said I was sane.

I feel like I should put up a little FAQ in response to some of the questions I answered over and over, so here it goes.

Q: How much yarn does it take to knit a square?
A: Surprisingly little. A few yards, although I haven’t measured exactly yet. Even if there’s not enough to make a whole square, I can splice in a bit of a solid color and you’d never know the difference because there are so many self-striping yarns mixed in there.

Q: Can I have a copy of the pattern?
A: Yes! Just watch this space. I’ll do my very best to get a tutorial up this week. It’s all dependent on how many more e-mails I get to answer and whether or not Sophie decides to sleep in the evenings. We don’t believe in cry-it-out around here.

Q: How old is Sophie?
A: Sophie is 5 months, and Julie is almost 3. Yes, they are both my biological children – my husband is Korean-American.

Q: Can I have some of the extra yarn?
A: Probably! Let me know that you want it and I’ll put you on the “interested” list and we’ll see how it all shakes out after I sort what comes in.

Q: Will the yarn I have work?
A: The current blanket I’m making is only going to contain fingering weight wool/nylon blends, any and all colors, though. Lots of people have offered other blends, though, and I say go ahead and send ‘em! I really want to make two blankets, one for each of my girls, and I’ll pick another fiber – either the all-wool handpaints or the wool/cotton/nylon blends for the second one. Also, there are all these other people looking for left overs. I’ll sort them out and make kits based on fiber and weight.

Q: How soon do you need this?
A: Well, if some shows up tomorrow, I’ll use it then. But I’ll probably still be sorting yarn and knitting blankies a month from now too. Watch this space.

I’m sure there were other very good questions, but my brain is a little fried. Thanks again to everyone who responded!

I applaud your stance on “we don’t believe in cry-it-out around here.” That really struck me, as I refused to let my kids cry it out at all during at least the first year of their life. And you know what? Since I responded every time they cried for me, they are very well attached to me, and they are very secure in knowing that if something goes wrong, if they need their Mom, that I am always going to be right there for them.

Can’t wait to see your tutorial on the blankie! My boyfriend is about to become a very young grandfather (only 40!) and I really want to make a special little blanket for him/her.

Put me on the “interested” list for extra yarn! I would love to do a sock yarn blankie too of odds and ends. I will gladly pay for shipping once it all shakes out for you! wavybrains on yahoo email.
