Bad Attitude

I had a really shitty day today. Not going to talk about it, just putting it out there. So anyway, you’re getting a bad attitude post today. Hopefully you won’t notice too much.

I’m sitting here watching season two of Weeds on DVD, so I may be a bit distracted. I’m just sayin’.

So, anyway, I’m getting ready to sign Julie up for dance lessons for the fall. I need to get right on that. She’s just a wee bit obsessed with ballet and dancing, so it’s not optional. She needs lessons. I’m thinking about this place since it’s right around the corner from where we live. Any thoughts?

As bad as today was, Tuesday was not so bad really. We went to the park with our friends. Julie ran around collecting leaves.

There was lots of swinging. Lots and Lots of swinging. The older girls demanded many “underdogs” and we un-vented something called an “over-dog”.

Yesterday wasn’t so bad either, really. This was the look on Sophie’s face when I told her Big Bird had to stay at home as we were headed out the door to wherever it was we went yesterday. I can’t remember where that was at the moment. My brain is too fried.

One good thing happened today. I dyed some yarn. It is part of a semi-secret little plan that I have, one that will become more clear as the plan develops.

Now I am going to go play on Ravelry for a bit, then continue working on that sample for the store while I try to readjust my attitude. See you tomorrow with Blankie Friday.

That looks like a good dance studio, and I think that long ago they used to do their end-of-year recital at Minnetonka High School, my best friend did the lighting for it, and while it is lots of little girls doing dances, it was generally well-run and not too crazy, which is saying a lot for a dance recital. If its convenient, then they seem better than average on the surface.

So sorry that your day sucked. Do you need me to send you some nice yarn to squeeze?

When I have bad days (with 3 boys, 9, 5, and 3, I have them) I try to convince myself that it could always be worse. Then I think about all the horrible things that could go wrong, like one of us dying, or being kidnapped, or getting some incurable disease. I think about all those things until I feel guilty about feeling so bad. Then, I’m still in a bad mood, but at least I feel guilty about it too. Then I go get a beer and some yarn.

Hope you fell better:( I have been having a few of those kinds of days lately. I found out I have sleep apnea, and the process to find it out, and now to get the cpap machine has been full of incompetencies of health care professionals. I have worked in health care for 21 years, and I do not like getting crappy service. People do not care about other people any more.

The look on sophie’s face is priceless!! Big bird must be her best budd!!

Sorry to hear you had a crappy day. My only suggestions are wine, chocolate and a really good night’s sleep. Hope today is better.

Poor Sophie looks so tragic!! We had an Elmo that would elicit similar loyalty for my son.

Hope today isn’t sucky for you.

Can’t wait to see more of the yarn!

Sorry about your bad day. Sophie’s look is priceless. I can’t wait to hear about the “secret” yarn that you just dyed. I hope today is better for you.

My daughter was in dance from 1st through 5th grade (not in the Twin Cities). Here are some of my thoughts:
Since you’re a busy Mom a dance studio close to home is something to take into consideration like you are doing. But if there is more than one dance studio close to where you live here are other things to consider and investigate:
Who teaches the youngest classes ? A professional teacher or high school/college dance students? My daughter had a professional ballet teacher right from the beginning but a high school student as a teacher for her jazz and tap lessons in 1st grade. The difference in teaching skills/methods was very apparent at spring recital. The ballet class knew their stuff and their dance was completely memorized but jazz and tap dances weren’t memorized and the teacher had to stand off stage doing the routine so they had someone to follow.
Also look into whether the kids go to dance classes all year just to perform one recital in June or if they have multiple chances to perform throughout the year.
Do the older grades (maybe 4th grade and up) have a ‘casual track’ and a ’serious track’ choice in classes? Come spring, my daughter’s dance studio insisted on mandatory attendance during spring classes (for preparation of their once a year dance recital). This made parctipating in other activies (like soccer, which was only offered in the spring) difficult to be in. In my daughter’s case basketball won out over ballet. If there had been a more ‘casual’ ballet track that allowed her the flexibility to attend basketball practices also she may have stayed in ballet. Her dance studio does have these different tracks now but it was established too late for my daughter.
I know the 4th & 5th grade ages seem really far off for you but believe me that time will come so fast.
Another tip is to try to sit in on some classes at various studios – notice if the teacher has control over the class and if the kids are having fun or not.
A knitting blog I enjoy reading is http://randomknits.net/ . This blogger (Donna) lives in Australia and has a 14/15 year old daughter who does dance – sometimes she blogs about it. Australia does dance quite differently – lots of competitions.

Sorry you had a shitty day!! Hope today is going better.

I had a great childhood flashback when you wrote about Under-dogs…it’s been years since I thought about that. Pretty soon my toddler will be ready for some. :)

I hope things gets better! Weeds is always good for a laugh (although I am not happy with the changing of the theme song in every episode this season!)

I know nothing about dance classes; except ThePrincess went through a dance phase which I managed to serve at our local YMCA. It worked out great for us because when the phase passed (which I knew it would) we could sign her up for something else.
