Halloween, for the most part, went swimmingly in the Kang household.
Yesterday I managed to get both of the girls in their new leggings at the same time, and they even submitted to some photographs on our way out the door to the “pumpkin patch”. I think this one could be holiday card material.

This one shows off the pants a bit better.

We made it to the “pumpkin patch” – the little outdoor shop that sells corn on the cob in the summer, Christmas trees in December, and pumpkins in October. The girls were most interested in the mums.

Sophie kept sticking her face WAY into the bunch to smell them…

And then was surprised over and over again when they tickled her face.

This afternoon we carved jack-o-lanterns with the pumpkins we brought home. Sophie stayed busy for a while playing with some of the little gourds we picked up.

Julie spent most of the day in her Tinkerbell costume – she got to wear it to school this morning, and I only made her take it off while we were carving pumpkins and eating lunch. Sophie spent quite a bit of time in her bunny suit, too.

Here are the jack-o-lanterns. We started with the one in the middle, Julie’s design. She wanted a face “with a heart for a mouth, and a heart for the eyes and a heart for the nose”. The one on the top is for Sophie – she’s currently a little obsessed with Elmo. Elmo is one of the less-than-twenty words that she knows, and probably the one she uses most often after Mama. It turned out pretty well. The one on the bottom is sort of a failed art project. I had an image in my head of sort of a spiral around and around the pumpkin. meh.

A little art project we did last week. Julie reeeeally wanted to make her bat pink.

The Halloween candy left after the trick-or-treaters were gone. Joe’s going to take it to work tomorrow so I won’t have to be tempted, but trust me I’ve eaten my share and more.

The girls had a great time with their own trick-or-treating. Sophie has been doing her best to copy Julie so often lately, it’s priceless. Julie did a great job of saying “trick-or-treat” and “thank you”, and she would have stayed out all night if I’d let her. Sophie wanted to walk on her own the whole way and grab candy from the bowls offered just like big sister Julie.
We got home, and the costumes came off. They each got to eat a piece of candy – I can’t believe I just gave my one year old candy, but it’s true what they say about second kids. Julie had her first piece of candy maybe six months ago.

It was a happy day.
I live on a culdesac so I don’t get a lot of trickortreaters, even though I want to – grew up on a farm, NOBODY we didn’t know came down that driveway;) Anyhow, one of my few trickortreaters came last night with her sister and their dog (in costume on a leash) and the little cheerleader just beamed up and me and I said “what do you say?” “CANDY!” “No, c’mon now, what do you Really say?” “Please!?” She’s lucky she was so cute and that she gave me a sticker;) Your girls look adorable as always (in and out of costumes).
They are just too cute! I love the mum story. I’m glad the trick or treating went well. Our 1 year old had a meltdown 2 houses into it, so we dropped her back at home with her daddy, and my 4yo and I kept going. And you’re totally right on the seconds. My 4yo had her first candy when she was about 3. The baby? About 9 months maybe? Her sister fed her m&m’s.
Your girls are adorable, as always. I love trick-or-treating with little kids. My older daughter is 6, and she wanted to zoom ahead of us the whole time last night.
My little girl (4yo) definitely has received many treats at a younger age than her older sister. It’s so much easier to wait on things like that when there’s no older sibling getting it right in front of them. All these younger sibs will survive.
Adorable. Believe me, these years will go by fast.
My fifteen year old had been answering the door and handing out candy the past few years for her Halloween participation. Last night she stayed in her room because she had so much homework to do. I’m proud of her good grades but it made me a little sad that the ‘answering the door duty’ fell to my husband and myself last night.
I think you are correct about the Holiday greeting card quality of the first photo. Cute.
Awww . . . the girls look so cute with the pumpkins and the mums! It looks like you had such a great Halloween. Makes me remember when I was a kid–I had a rabbit costume, too!
