Blankie Friday – Post-It Fun

30! Woot! I’m keeping up the pace, and that’s a good thing, because I’ve been working hard again this week. Thirty squares, plus I wove in all the ends a couple days ago. Let’s look at the standard shots.

Daisy was present and accounted for again.

Ooh, look – the camera software thought this one was sideways and automatically rotated it for me. I’m too lazy tonight to fix it.

And now we get to the crazy-fun part. All week long, I’ve been thinking about how many more squares there are going to be, how long it might take, and just how big is this freakin’ thing going to be exactly when it’s done. And then tonight as I was laying it out, tucking in ends and snapping pictures, it occurred to me that the squares are almost exactly the same size as small post-it notes. The kind that I keep in my kitchen drawer for labeling leftover food containers.

Ahem. Yes, in case my persistence in this project hadn’t already suggested it to you, this probably demonstrates a bit more fully that indeed I am a little crazy in a certain kind of way.

If I continue and complete the layout suggested by the post-it outline, then 146 squares remain to be knitted. At thirty squares a week, that would take about another five weeks of knitting, and then I would have to add on the border after that. It’s also a pretty huge blanket. I’m thinking about maybe leaving off the last two rows, which would mean only 113 squares and only four weeks of knitting them. Lucky me, I have many hours in which to meditate this.

I admire your “sticking” to this project and envy the blankie. I spotted this little square with yarn I sent and told my family, all excited, come look here is the yarn, it’s in Shelly’s blanket. From North Carolina to Minnosota.
Wow! The “post it” notes is a good idea, I will be using that idea to lay and build on mine. I have one started. I hope I live long enough to finish one. :)

Every time I see photos of this blanket, I am newly amazed. I just love it. The size, the squares, the colors, it’s all just incredibly wonderful. I’m a little happy that you have several more week of work on this, because I might be sad when the progress photos are gone and it’s finally done.

Yay for blankie progress! I can’t wait to see it all finished and hanging up at the State Fair. This year it just might be baby animals being born and then directly to Creative Activities to see the blankie (and all the other beautiful knitting).

As if Post-it Notes just weren’t useful enough!! This is going to be a family heirloom.

It’s really looking great! I really need to get back to mine…I’ve hardly done anything on it in months…deployment has come and gone and I barely have 15 or 20 squares done-hanging head in shame-

Congratulations on approaching the finish line, and Thanks for chronicling the progress. The blanket was a topic at today’s Saturday morning sock class. Now my students will have something to do with the remainders of their skeins. BTW, what is 146 more when you have done so many? Think of the balance of lenght to width:) (jk)

The post-its are quite clever. Not that you’re asking for votes, but I say you make sure that you don’t stop short when you’ve put so much work into this epic project. You don’t want to get the border on and start wishing you’d made it longer. Easy for me to say, I’m not the one doing the work!

Whatever you decide, it’ll still be awesome.

    Shelly,
Check out my blog, I posted a picture of socks made from your hand dyed sock yarns. Also in my first post here, I spelled Minnesota wrong. Sorry about that.
