Busted!
violation.
I was headed to the co-op to get some groceries before the snow expected
today, and I accidentally turned left where you're not supposed to turn
left during rush hour. I didn't even think about it because there was no
traffic coming the other way - and because I'm not usually headed to the
Wedge before 9 in the morning.
I realized what I was doing mid-turn, but it was too late and I kind of
mentally berated myself but figured oh well, pay more attention next
time. And then I saw the cop, lights flashing behind me. D'oh! I knew
right away, and when he told me what IU had done I was honestly
apologetic and truthfully told him I was sorry and that I'm not usually
out so early.
Still - almost $150 down the toilet. Ouch!
I so badly wanted to snap a picture of the flashing lights with my
Sidekick, but I figured if he was going to be lenient, that would have
been a surefire way to piss him off.
I think probably the worst part for me is the shame of being pulled over
- of being the one sitting on the side of the road in front of the
police car with lights blinking a silent "Guilty! Busted! Gotcha!" for
everyone to see.
And to top it off - the store doesn't even open till 9, so Sophie and I
are sitting here killing the extra ten minutes that, had we spent them
at home instead of heading out the moment Julie's schoolbus left, would
have saved me - lets say it one more time - One Hundred and Forty-Eight
Dollars!!!11one!!!
Sigh. And Joe (who didn't get his wii yesterday BTW) just laughed at me
when I called him and told him. Whew!

I hope you know I wasn't laughing at you in a "Ha-ha! You messed up" way. I just thought it was cute that you were crying over a relatively minor moving violation.
Let's remember I probably outnumber you in the moving violations dept. (a couple speeding tickets). And, while I knowingly do so knowing the consequences, the embarrassment of being pulled over is always the worst.
I thought you were calling to say you wrecked the car. So, the ticket was a huge relief to me! :-D
My deepest sympathies. Myself, I got pulled over in a speed trap last month - 45 in a 30 on a back road to DH's military base. That's gonna be 60 pounds (120 dollars) and 3 points...so, let's all say it with me now..."Beter to be LATE than speed!!"
Doh.
Ouch. What a great husband you have, though! My boss got a ticket for a similar thing, and when she called to tell her husband, we all could hear him yelling at her over the phone. What a jerk.
Argh - what a crappy way to start the day!! And I'm sure that when you look back on it and start to laugh about it, then Joe will be laughingwith you not atyou. But that kind of perspective comes after some sort of feel good therapy - food, shopping and/or beverages.
Awwww that stinks! Man, couldn't the cop have just been cool and given you a warning?
You have a great husband! That is the best, when we are so hard on ourselves and our husbands are there to make us feel like all is well.
Sorry.
Ugh, how frustrating! I got rear-ended yesterday by another driver (she didn't do anything wrong, we just had bad slippery weather), and when I told the woman who hit me that I needed to call my husband before we negated the need for a police report, she winced. I didn't know whether to tell her that it was just because it was his car, and I wanted to be considerate to my partner, NOT because I can't make a move without my husband. In the end, I just let her listen to the call, and I'm sure she figured it out. He didn't laugh, but he was cool. And the poor woman who hit me was very relieved.
Sorry you had to start your day that way. I know how frustrating it is when you catch yourself making a mistake like that and think you can just try not to do it again next time. I hope your day got better.
Sorry to hear about the ticket, Shelly (and the Wii, Joe!). Even more humiliating was getting pulled over by a BICYCLE POLICE while making an illegal left hand turn (same thing, it wasn't past 7pm yet). Yes, it hurts...ouch.
Hang in there.

Bummer. Better that type of moving violation then getting a ticket for causing an accident.... so I guess there is always a way to count your blessigns...
Just think of all the yarn you could have bought with that money. Oh the pain! And the worst is that you feel like a complete fool. Sigh.
Oh Shelly, you poor thing. I commiserate with you totally.
I got pulled over by Maple Lake a couple years ago as I forgot the speed limit goes down to 40 and I kept it at 55. I had my mind on something else and totally spaced out the speed limit change. Luckily I just got a warning.
I was late on the way to my mom's a few weeks ago, out of state, noticed the speed trap, (50 to 45 to 35 in less than a half mile) and was pulled over before I could slow down. The kicker? the fine was $25, but with all the *@&(%$&^&*fees* it came to $108! So I've now enhanced to coffers of PA, and learned my lesson, ouch.
Well, bummmer! I'm with Joe and relieved it was only a ticket and not a car wreck which would have been much, much more expensive.
I hate hate hate the feeling of being pulled over. I was pulled over last week for, of all things, not using my signal to change lanes. This was at 10:00 am and I know I did use my signal. I always do and even use it turning into my driveway for crying out loud. He "excused" me and all the while I am thinking, don't you have some real criminals to catch? Anyhow you should go to court over your ticket. I got a $150 ticket for speeding a couple of years ago and went to court and said I was guilty that I was not going to lie but then told her my reasons (my kid was home sick and I was going to get meds and it was downhill, ya know the momentum thing and that I was really a good driver). They knocked my ticket down to $100 but more importantly they kept it off my insurance record and I had to keep my nose clean for 6 months and I did. It may be worth it!!!
OOOOOps, that last post was from me. Forgot to sign.

Ohhhhh, poor ticket lady. JEnnifer at MajorKNits told me to check out your sock yarn blanket. Amazing! your baby, amazing.
I am headed up your way from Chicago area to see my sis who lives in Roseville. Any good yarn store I should see this time that is close? I have been to the one on Grand Ave in St. Paul and loved it. My sis and her husband work at the Univ. Of MN.. Both campuses. Anything near them?
