I was at the fair yesterday (visiting from out of state) and have to say that after seeing your blog photos of the blankie, it was really impressive to see it in person :)

Congratulations on your awards.
I enjoyed all of your fair pics
(especially Julie and the butterflies) and don't worry about posting much. When your girls are grown, you won't be saying "I wish I had blogged more".

What a wonderful summer you've had with your girls! Blogging can wait but little girls grow too fast.

I don't have a fair close by so was happy to share vicariously through you (sans junkfood)

I've only entered my State Fair once (it's a ways away), but was so surprised when I walked in and couldn't find my afghan hanging on the wall -- that's because it was in a center display with a blue ribbon on it!

I really do like my County Fair, though, and I volunteer there, demonstrate there, and enter as much as I can. I also lobby my knitting guild members to enter, as well as lobbying the County Fair folks to open up more knitting categories. I've had some success at both!

Congratulations on your wins, especially the Sweepstakes for Blankie! It really deserves it!

I think you will be fine during the RNC. The Fairgrounds are far enough away from downtown that I don't expect you'll be bothered.

Now for me, who works in downtown, I get to look forward to a whole different sort of "fun". I plan to ride my bike.

I'm sad to be missing the Fair this year, but with moving there was no time.

I do wish they put people's first names on the entries. I spent a lot of time in the CA building trying to decide if I knew where entries came from. Of course the blankie was easy :)

I'm a lover of TheFair too - and really wish I could buy a Season Pass so I could go a little bit every other day or so.....that would be AWESOME!

Now I think I am going to have to go to my state fair in September! Its about an hour and a half drive from where I live, but totally worth it. Last time I went, I ended up bringing a bunny home with me. Maybe this time I could find some wool instead!

Congratulations on all your blue ribbons!!

I've always loved the fair - both State and County - and make several trips to whichever one I happen to live near at any given time (for county, it's Alameda, at least for my money). When we lived in Sacramento, it was the State Fair we would go to at least six times during its' almost three-week run. The California State Fair is HUGE - it takes a couple of days to walk through and really see everything (as well as eat your way from the entrance gate, across the grounds, back across in a grid, and wind up at the exit (which was your original entry point)). My proudest moment came in 1999 when I pieced and quilted a king-sized bed quilt which was later destined to be auctioned off for Habitat for Humanity (it was made of nothing but batiks and hand-dyed fabrics), as well as taking every award other than Best of Show with my baklava (I missed out on the Grand Poobah of rosettes to a chocolate pie). Considering that the judges had deemed it "perfect" and given me a score of 100, it must have been one hell of a pie (either that, or pies traditionally win against pastry). I've always wanted a rosette; collecting several on pick-up day was really cool (and gave me the opportunity to look really smug... I'm going to hell, too).
